ways of attaching curtains Useful

The overwhelming majority of curtains are attached to classic cornices, and this method has practically no analogs and competitors. But the options for attaching the curtain to the cornice itself can vary: eyelets, drawstring, hinges, braid, strings – each of them suits one or another type of curtain, each gives the curtains an attractiveness, each carries its style accent. It is in the methods of attaching curtains to the cornice that today we will try to figure it out.

6 Ways of attaching curtains

Drawstring curtains

drawstring curtains

Drawstring curtains are made from almost any type of fabric and are attached to the cornice by tying ribbons and cords on a knot or bow. In the case of curtains with strings made of dense and heavy fabric, it is advisable to make the strings on the curtains thicker and wider. This technique will allow the strings to support the heavyweight of the curtains.

This method of fastening is ideal for light weightless curtains made of natural fabrics of light shades or curtains with a floral pattern – ties and bows complement and emphasize the weightlessness of the composition. Tie curtains can be found in the rooms of teenage girls, in the kitchen, or the bedroom – they bring a touch of romance, lightness, and airiness to every room.

Hinged curtains

The hinged curtains have so-called decorative loops in the upper part of the canvas, with the help of which the curtain is hung on the cornice. If you have to manually tie each ribbon with curtains with ties, then it is much easier to hang curtains on hinges on the cornice. Hinged curtains are popular in both classic and modern interiors. The number of loops is calculated so that they can support the weight of the curtain.

These curtains can decorate the windows of a nursery, bedroom, kitchen, living room – they are universal. The individuality of each such curtain can be given by loops, which are also called stitches or loops. The hinges can be “blind” (both ends of the loop are attached to the top of the curtain and the loop cannot be unbuttoned), if the curtain can be easily removed from the cornice, or unbuttoned, the fasteners on which are made using contact tape (Velcro), buttons or buttons.

Buttonholes can be made from the same fabric as the curtains or from the companion fabric, and the hinges can be of different widths (from 5 to 20 cm) depending on the style of the room. Hinged curtains can consist of one or more canvases and, thanks to the finished top, do not require a lambrequin.

Curtains on eyelets

Curtains on eyelets are made of fabric, in the upper part of which there are round eyelets – special metal or plastic rings inserted into the holes in the upper part of the curtain. With this method of mounting the curtains to the cornice, the eyelets themselves are almost invisible, and with their help, identical, uniform folds are formed. The most commonly used eyelet is a two-piece grommet: a block and a ring.

The curtain can either be strung through the eyelets or hung on the hooks that are attached to the eyelets. Thanks to the strength of the rings, the curtains on the eyelets practically do not wear out, and the fabric can be selected in low and medium density. Depending on the wishes and the size of the curtain rod, you can use both small, barely noticeable eyelets, and large round rings, which can even be of a contrasting color about the curtain.

The curtains on the drawstring have a pocket-tunnel in the upper part of the canvas, through which the curtain is hung on the cornice. If in the case of curtains on eyelets, you can hear the sound of metal rubbing against the cornice, then curtains on the curtains are distinguished by their noiselessness – at most, you will hear a pleasant rustle of fabric. Drawstring curtains are one of the varieties of straight curtains, to which a “sleeve” has been made to the top. They are wonderfully suitable for dormer-type windows, windows in niches, and especially well – for decorating windows with cafe-style curtains.

Curtains with lace

The curtains on the braid are simple and at the same time original, the upper part of the curtains is draped with braid, forming vertical folds throughout the product. These folds are usually very frequent, which gives the curtain a certain dynamism and splendor. You cannot form such small folds with either eyelets or drawstring. The principle of operation of the braid is that it has sewn cords along its entire length, which, when pulled together, form folds. The braid is sewn into the upper part of the curtain fabric and pulled together to the required level. A lot of fabrics for such curtains are needed – at least one and a half – two times wider than the draped space. Very often curtains on the braid are combined with swags.

Curtains on rings

Curtains on rings are made of various fabric textures and are attached to the curtain rod with curtain rings. They have confidently won the championship among straight curtains in America and Europe – this is the method of fastening curtains that can be seen in the vast majority of interiors with straight curtains. Such curtains differ from curtains on eyelets in that the rings are not attached “inside” the curtain, but only “outside” to the upper edge of the curtain. These curtains are durable and durable, they can also create beautiful vertical folds and do not require a lot of fabric to sew curtains.
